Hi, I am Dr Charmaine Jooste, founder of the BioCosmedical Pre and Post Procedure skincare range. I have a passion for healing that spans over 35 years as a medical doctor and aesthetic consultant. I love to help people stay healthy, vibrant and beautiful. I am also a minimalist, striving to put the least amount of chemicals inside my body and on top of my skin. 

I became interested in wound healing after treating many patients with surgical and cosmetic complications, some resulting in mental and physical detrimental long-term effects.

Over the past 15 years, my practice has been profoundly influenced by a renewed understanding of skin health on a molecular level and I have studied and worked closely with a world leader in Inflammation Research, Dr Barry Sears, who has also become my scientific advisor during the development of this range. 

My first focus was to solve the post-treatment risks associated with surgical and medical aesthetic interventions which can lead to scarring and pigmentation disorders, but the complete concept is based upon optimising the skin pre-treatment and creating an optimal healing environment post-treatment with natural, skin-identical ingredients to enhance cosmetic outcomes but also reduce patient discomfort and risks. 

I have done extensive research into cellular responses in the healing process of skin trauma and skin wounds. The current available protocols for complications management are mainly antibiotics and topical antiseptics. The drawback of these approaches are increased resistance to antibiotics and, topical antiseptics, in general, are heavily chemical-laden or alcohol-based products which can create further irritation to the skin. I was looking towards nature for an answer. Something that was 100% natural, non-toxic and bio-identical to the skin and safe to apply to open wounds. I call it Nature's Intelligent Molecules.
